Quick answer: direct transfer or staged public transport
From Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB), a private transfer to Çeşme is about 95,23 km and 65 minutes; to Alaçatı it is about 85,05 km and 58 minutes. Public transport and shuttle options exist at the airport, but for the Çeşme Peninsula you should treat them as staged journeys whose current lines, timings and stops need checking with the operator before travel.
The practical choice is not simply public or private. It is direct door-to-door travel versus a route that may involve a shuttle desk, municipal bus, İZBAN, a city interchange, or onward buses and minibuses to the peninsula. The right answer depends on luggage, arrival hour, exact accommodation and whether you are trying to reach Çeşme centre, Alaçatı old town or a beach district.
What transport exists at ADB
DHMİ lists airport access by Havaş buses, ESHOT municipal buses, Metro-İZBAN, car rental, taxi and private vehicles. Havaş shuttle buses can be boarded at the arrivals-floor exits of the Domestic and International terminals. DHMİ lists ESHOT airport services as lines 200, 202, 204 and 206 from the arrivals exit of both terminals, but line numbers can change, so check the current ESHOT information before you rely on them.
The airport is also connected to rail. From the International Arrivals floor, signs and a moving walkway lead to the İZBAN station. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality describes İZBAN as a suburban rail system between Aliağa and Selçuk, with 41 stations over 136 km. To reach the airport by metro and suburban rail, the municipality describes changing at Hilal-Halkapınar or Alsancak onto the southbound İZBAN line and alighting at the airport station. This is useful for İzmir city, but it is not a rail branch to Çeşme.
How the peninsula leg works
İzmir's tourism directorate describes visitors arriving by land, air or sea as first reaching İzmir and then continuing to Çeşme by bus, with Çeşme centre the last stop of buses and minibuses. It also says minibuses and municipality buses link Çeşme centre with Çiftlik, Dalyan, Alaçatı, Reisdere, Ovacık and the beaches. That makes public transport possible, but the exact current service pattern is the part to confirm.
For a traveller with one small bag and time in the day, a staged route may be acceptable. For a late arrival, a family group, sports equipment or an address inside Alaçatı's narrow old-town streets, direct planning usually matters more. Alaçatı's centre is a T-shaped pair of café, boutique and restaurant streets, and the narrow cobbled lanes are better explored on foot; ask the accommodation where vehicles usually stop.
| Option | Useful when | Check before travel |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | You want one planned airport-to-address leg | Exact accommodation entrance and flight details |
| Havaş or bus | You are comfortable with operator stops and onward travel | Current line, destination, departure point and operating pattern |
| İZBAN | You are going into İzmir first | Interchange and onward route to the peninsula |
| Taxi or car rental | You want on-arrival flexibility | Address, route and parking or return logistics |
Çeşme versus Alaçatı as a final stop
Çeşme is the wider peninsula base. GoTürkiye describes the peninsula with clear sea, beaches and bays, thermal springs, sports activities and nightlife. The tourism directorate describes Çeşme centre as the last stop of buses and minibuses, and internal services then connect to surrounding places and beaches. If your hotel is in Çeşme town, the public-transport logic is simpler than if your final destination is a smaller beach area.
Alaçatı is a more address-sensitive arrival. It is busy in July and August, quieter in spring and autumn, and the main strip gets very crowded in high season. The Saturday village market is held at the entrance of Alaçatı, and GoTürkiye advises going early to avoid crowds and heat. If your arrival day is a Saturday, confirm whether your accommodation expects the vehicle at the entrance edge or nearer the property.
Night arrivals and late connections
Türkiye AIP lists Adnan Menderes Airport customs and immigration, health and sanitation, handling and security as H24. That supports the idea of airport operations around the clock, but it does not tell you airline schedules, queue times, shuttle timetables or bus frequencies. For public transport after a late landing, verify the operator's current service before assuming a connection.
Flight status is monitored for airport pickups, and pickup timing may be adjusted based on the actual arrival time. The useful preparation is to share the final address, terminal and flight number, and to tell the accommodation the hour you are likely to arrive.
Decision rules for the Çeşme Peninsula
- Choose direct transfer for late landings, children, surf equipment, a villa address, Alaçatı old town, or a plan that starts soon after arrival.
- Consider shuttle or bus if you have time, light luggage and a final stop close to a public stop in Çeşme or Alaçatı.
- Use İZBAN when the first destination is İzmir city, not when you expect a single rail journey to the peninsula.
- Ask operators for current details because line numbers, timetables and seasonal patterns can change.
