About Vakko Hotel Sumahan Bosphorus
Vakko Hotel Sumahan Bosphorus sits directly on the waterfront in the idyllic Çengelköy neighborhood of Üsküdar, inside a beautifully restored mid-19th-century Ottoman distillery. The building once produced 'suma,' the raw spirit used to make raki; restored by Turkish-American architect couple Nedret and Mark Butler as 'Sumahan on the Water,' it was later acquired by Vakko, Turkey's premier luxury fashion house.
To preserve privacy, the hotel has just 12 custom-designed rooms and suites, including multi-level waterfront maisonettes named after stars. The address is Kuleli Caddesi No. 43, Çengelköy, Üsküdar; a clean, understated private gate opens into a secure stone courtyard. The hotel offers complimentary open-air valet for overnight guests and patrons of its acclaimed restaurants, including Caviar Kaspia.
The hotel's defining logistical asset is its own wooden jetty and private boat service — VIP guests can bypass bridge traffic entirely with a 15-minute private boat transfer from a pier on the European side. The nearest rail hub is Üsküdar Station (M5 Metro + Marmaray), about 6.2 km south. Çengelköy Ferry Pier is within walking distance (~500-800m). The hotel maintains a quiet, romantic atmosphere and does not accept children under 14.
