From Milas-Bodrum Airport, Bitez is the nearest of the three bays (about 42 km, 45 minutes), then Gündoğan (about 47 km, 47 minutes) and Turgutreis (about 55 km, 62 minutes).
Three bays, three different pictures
Bitez, Gündoğan and Turgutreis lie next to each other on the western side of the Bodrum Peninsula. All three are reached from Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV), but the transfer is not the same length, and neither is the holiday. On our route data the order from the airport is Bitez (about 42 km, 45 minutes), Gündoğan (about 47 km, 47 minutes) and Turgutreis (about 55 km, 62 minutes).
Bitez: calm water, close to town
Bitez is a family-friendly beach town with a shallow, calm bay and a wide sandy beach. It is known for its surf schools and pomegranate orchards, and its position close to central Bodrum gives easy access to town life while keeping a relaxed pace. It is the shortest transfer of the three. See the Bitez district page.
Gündoğan: the quiet fishing-town bay
Gündoğan keeps the atmosphere of a fishing town. It is known for its peaceful bays and seaside restaurants, and for sunrise views, which its name reflects. It suits travellers who want an authentic, quieter stay away from the crowds. See the Gündoğan district page.
Turgutreis: the larger base
Turgutreis is the second-largest settlement on the Bodrum Peninsula, favoured for its west-facing coastline and sunset views. It has a spacious marina, a lively bazaar and family-friendly beaches. It is also the longest transfer of the three, so it is worth allowing for on arrival day. See the Turgutreis district page.
How the airport affects the choice
Milas-Bodrum Airport has a Domestic Terminal and an International Terminal, and runs on a strongly seasonal schedule: it is busy from May to October and mostly domestic in winter. In summer, a long transfer after a charter or evening flight is part of the day, so the gap between Bitez at 45 minutes and Turgutreis at 62 minutes is worth weighing.
A quick guide
- Shortest transfer and a calm family beach: Bitez.
- A quiet fishing-town feel and sunrise views: Gündoğan.
- A bigger town with a marina, bazaar and sunsets, accepting a longer transfer: Turgutreis.
Times describe normal driving conditions; summer traffic on the peninsula can add to them. Each route page above shows the transfer and booking options.
