From Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV), Yalıkavak is about 54.1 km and 61 minutes, Gümüşlük about 56 km and 65 minutes. The gap is small, so choose by setting: Yalıkavak for its marina and shopping, Gümüşlük for its protected bay.
Yalıkavak or Gümüşlük: the short answer
From Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV), Yalıkavak is about 54.1 km and 61 minutes by private transfer. Gümüşlük is about 56 km and 65 minutes. Gümüşlük is slightly longer on both counts, but the gap is too small to decide anything. Both are long rides by Bodrum standards, so the real question is where you want to arrive after just over an hour in the car: a marina town with shopping and restaurants, or a protected bay with ruins and fish restaurants.
| Base | Distance from BJV | Transfer time | Setting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yalıkavak | about 54.1 km | about 61 minutes | Marina, open-air shopping centre, restaurants |
| Gümüşlük | about 56 km | about 65 minutes | Protected bay, ruins of ancient Myndos, fish restaurants by the water |
Why the transfer rarely decides this one
Bodrum centre is about 36 km from the airport, so either base means a longer ride than staying in town. That trade-off applies equally to both. With only a few minutes between them, choose on setting. If a shorter ride matters more to you, our guide to choosing between Bodrum town, Yalıkavak and Gümüşlük looks at it from the other direction.
Yalıkavak: arriving where there is a lot going on
Yalıkavak has a marina that is a hub for superyacht owners, an open-air shopping centre with brands such as Armani, Prada, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, and restaurants including Zuma and Nusr-et. After the long ride you land with dinner and the marina close at hand. It suits a stay built around the marina and the evening scene. More on the area in the Yalıkavak Marina guide and on the Yalıkavak page.
Gümüşlük: arriving somewhere protected
Gümüşlük is one of the peninsula's most authentic bays: a bohemian atmosphere, the ruins of ancient Myndos, fresh fish restaurants by the water and sunset views, all in a cove under strict protection against development. People choose it for quiet rather than activity. Before you travel, ask your accommodation where the driver should aim for the last stretch. A protected cove is not laid out like a modern resort. The Gümüşlük guide goes deeper into the bay.
Season and time of arrival
Milas-Bodrum Airport runs a strongly seasonal schedule. From May to October the International Terminal handles heavy European charter traffic. From November to April the airport is mostly domestic, with year-round connections to Istanbul and Ankara. A summer arrival is busy, and a 61 or 65 minute drive after a travel day deserves planning: tell your accommodation when you expect to arrive, and ask about late check-in if you land in the evening. Outside summer, check with your accommodation what is open in the bay before you go.
Flight status is monitored for airport pickups, and pickup timing may be adjusted based on the actual arrival time. For late-night arrivals your driver tracks your flight.
A simple decision rule
- You want a marina, shopping and a choice of restaurants close by: Yalıkavak.
- You want a quiet, protected bay with ruins and fish restaurants at the water's edge: Gümüşlük.
- You cannot decide: the small gap in transfer time is not the deciding factor, so choose the setting you would rather wake up in.
