About Bodrum
Bodrum's glamorous modern veneer rests on the ruins of ancient Halicarnassus. Birthplace of the historian Herodotus and home to the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus — one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, built for the Carian ruler Mausolus and his sister-wife Artemisia II — the city has bridged civilizations for millennia. After earthquakes toppled the monumental tomb, its marble stones were repurposed by the Knights of St. John in 1402 to build Bodrum Castle (Petronium). Today the castle houses the world-class Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, including the 14th-century BCE Uluburun shipwreck.
Bodrum is widely celebrated as the capital of Turkish yachting and the birthplace of the 'Blue Cruise.' That legacy lives on in handcrafted wooden gulets from traditional shipyards and modern marinas like Yalıkavak, home to some of the world's most luxurious superyachts.
The Bodrum Peninsula is a mosaic of 17 distinct neighborhoods: the busy nightlife of Gümbet, the quieter olive-grove pace of Gündoğan, and the luxury of Türkbükü — known as the 'Saint-Tropez of Turkey.' This diversity carries through to its hotels, from intimate boutique properties to five-star terraced resorts like the Mandarin Oriental, METT, and The Bodrum EDITION.
