Kaleiçi or Konyaaltı: Short Transfers for an Antalya City Stay

Kaleiçi is 14 km and 24 minutes from Antalya Airport, Konyaaltı 20.4 km and 23 minutes. How the final stretch and setting decide a city stay.

Kaleiçi or Konyaaltı: Short Transfers for an Antalya City Stay

Kaleiçi is 14 km and about 24 minutes from Antalya Airport; Konyaaltı is 20.4 km and about 23 minutes. Times are close, so decide by the final stretch: a walk from an old-town gate in Kaleiçi, direct vehicle access at most Konyaaltı stays.

Quick answer: similar drives, different last stretch

From Antalya Airport (AYT), Kaleiçi is 14 km and about 24 minutes by private transfer, and Konyaaltı is 20.4 km and about 23 minutes. Konyaaltı is further in kilometres but the drive times are almost identical, so time should not decide this choice. What differs is how the transfer ends. Vehicle access inside Kaleiçi's old walls is heavily restricted, so the drop-off is at one of the main gates and you finish on foot. In Konyaaltı, modern residences and apart-hotels generally allow direct vehicle access, so no walk is needed. The decision is therefore about setting and about how much of the arrival you want to do on foot.

City traffic can change even a short drive, so as general guidance keep some margin when you fly out of Antalya the same day.

Kaleiçi: a historic core you finish on foot

Kaleiçi ("inside the castle") is a compact 35-hectare historic core founded in the 2nd century BC as Attaleia by King Attalos II of Pergamon. Its ancient walls enclose Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman layers, and it works like an open-air museum. Visitors typically enter through Hadrian's Gate (Üçkapılar), a triple-arched marble gateway built in 130 AD, where deep grooves worn by ancient chariot wheels are still visible in the paving. The road down from the cliffs leads to the Old Harbor, once a Roman trade hub and now a yacht marina lined with waterfront cafés, and the narrow cobblestone streets are lined with 19th-century Ottoman mansions.

Accommodation is almost entirely restored historic konaks and boutique cave hotels. Properties such as Tekeli Konak and Tuvana Hotel offer an intimate stay with original timber details and quiet courtyards. Many of the alleys are narrow, winding and pedestrian-only, which is exactly why the transfer ends at a gate. Before you travel, ask your hotel which gate is closest to its entrance and how to find the entrance from there, since walking directions are what turn a drop-off into an easy arrival. If you are travelling with a lot of bags, remember that the final stretch is over cobblestones.

Konyaaltı: door-to-door and residential

Konyaaltı is the modern, eco-conscious face of Antalya, where the Beydağları mountains plunge straight into the sea along a 7 km Blue Flag pebble beach. Its water is fed by cold subterranean creeks and stays cool even at the height of summer. The district is home to Atatürk Culture Park (Beach Park), with wide walking paths and playgrounds, right next to the Antalya Aquarium, whose tunnel is 131 metres long. At the western edge, the Tünektepe Cable Car runs from the coast up to Tünektepe Hill for panoramic views.

The character is modern, residential and cosmopolitan; Konyaaltı is Antalya's leading expat hub. Accommodation leans toward sleek, low-to-mid-rise condominiums and apart-hotels with private pools and 24-hour security, not mega-resorts. For a transfer, the consequence is simple: the vehicle can generally drive up to your residence, so there is no walk at the end. It is worth telling your hotel or apartment host your arrival time and asking which entrance the vehicle should use.

Which suits which stay

  • History, atmosphere, evenings in a walkable old town: Kaleiçi. You sleep inside the walls, among Ottoman mansions, in a konak or a cave hotel.
  • Longer stay, beach and park on your doorstep: Konyaaltı. The 7 km beach, Beach Park and the aquarium sit together, and apart-hotels with private pools suit a longer, self-catering style of stay.
  • Arriving with heavy luggage or tired children: Konyaaltı is simpler, because the drive ends at the door. Kaleiçi works well if you travel light or your hotel is near a gate.
  • A short city break: either works. Both transfers are short, so the arrival does not take much of the day.

Common questions

Can the driver take me to my hotel door in Kaleiçi?

Not usually. Vehicle access inside the walls is restricted, so the vehicle stops at one of the main gates around the old walls and you walk the rest.

Which is closer to the airport in time?

The two are almost the same: about 24 minutes to Kaleiçi and about 23 minutes to Konyaaltı, even though Konyaaltı is further in kilometres.

Flight status is monitored for airport pickups, and pickup timing may be adjusted based on the actual arrival time. If you are comparing a city stay with a beach resort further out, the resort-area transfer planner covers Belek, Side, Kemer and Alanya.
